Interesting Sites to See

[home]

ACORN--Atlantic Canada Organic Regional Network: A wide ranging site that offers organic industry news, information for consumers, for producers and for those considering the jump to organic production themselves. Offers links to other organic sites and advertises workshops and courses in organic production. Every year, ACORN holds a conference in a different Atlantic city, which you can find out more about in the website. Has a searchable database on where you can buy organic in the atlantic provinces. A big site, but well worth the time.

COG--Canadian Organic Growers: covers news and events and information. Has a free lending library of organic materials and a countrywide listing of where you can buy organic products, although listings may not be very up to date, as they are supposed to be updated by the producer. But still a very good site, with a lot of information and resources. Offers links to other organic and organic industry sites.

OCIA--Organic Crop Improvement Society: An international certifying body, their standards are often the jumping off point for other, smaller certifying bodies. They list their standards on their website, but you need Acrobat Reader to read them. Slightly dry reading, but handy to know about if you are concerned or curious about how a foodstuff has been produced.

SOD--Saskatchewan Organic Directorate: A very nice site with lots of information in an easily understood form. Explains the certification process, lists various certifying bodies, a consumer's page, and will soon have a FAQ page. I recommend it highly.

Organic Shopping Mall-- an interesting site giving links to a number of different organic farms and businesses, though only two are from Canada. Neat to browse the links, though.

The Meatrix--a take off of the first matrix movie, only set in modern agriculture. It's actually scary, how many similarities there are. i haven't been around the whole site yet, but there seems to be a lot of information on it.
