The weather finally gave us three sunny days and we were able to get some hay baled, although we aren't happy with the quality. The rain held us off longer than we like and the grasses were more mature than usual when we harvested. More mature=less nutritious. Hoping for better weather for second cut! And, what about that sky? That is the colour I want for my kitchen walls! |

The hay equipment is parked to one side for now. The light was so bright, a lot of the pictures seem washed out today--I played with the brightness and contrast on this one and now it just looks weird. It was a beautiful day for a walk, though. |

After you harvest the main head of cabbage, if you leave the rest of the plant, it will start producing more cabbage. They never get very big, but they are great single-serving cabbages for stews or boiled dinners. Cute! |

Burgundy beans on the plant. |

A head of late broccoli--will probably be ready for harvest next week. |

On Thursdays, there is a lot of prep work for the harvest and the market. Here, you can see Mai (on the left) and Shira (back again!) on the right, washing the harvest crates and our plastic bags and putting them out in the sun to dry. Reduce--reuse--recycle is a way of life here. |

I call this picture chickens in the jungle. These are our future laying hens, roaming about in the tall grass (and weeds!) outside their building. Hard to believe these are the same little balls of fluff that came home from François Buote this spring! |

The old CASE tractor and, behind it, the blue machine is a berry harvester. It's being tried out on a number of different farms as a way to harvest currants. |

These are the currants that came off our farm. |

The pigs have a bigger pen now and the are very much enjoying the extra space. Now, hopefully, they will run around a bit more, because they are getting FAT! |
|
| Ducks and geese. Very timid, but they really enjoy being right in the center of things and being able to roam wherever they want. (Not that they go far, but it's the thought that counts, right?) | |

With
all the rain, I've been having trouble getting out to get pictures. I
know, neither rain, nor sleet, etc. should be my motto, but it tends to
fall flat in the face of driving drops of something that almost feels
like ice. Who ever heard of frost warnings in July? That's so not fair! That's
it for now--new pictures coming just before school starts (assuming the
rain stays away)!
